When I was in college not-so-long-ago, we had a good Excel class that covered pivot tables, but I didn't really understand how I would ever use them in real life. My current accounting job at a school district, with a very complex chart of accounts, changed all that. I have finally figured out a great use for pivot tables...in fact, I am not sure I could do my job well without them, even though none of my co-workers seems to know anything about pivot tables.This book has given me a good foundation in the basics of pivot tables and has reinforced what I learned in college. I appreciated the "tips and tricks" chapter, and espeically the part in that chapter about calculated fields and items, both of which I am using to a good degree after having learned about them here. Oh...and once we upgrade past Excel 2007 at work, I will be going back and reading the chapter on Slicers!!One request I would have for this book is to include a chapter on custom formatting of pivot tables. There are lots of different built-in styles for pivot tables, but I have already found a couple situations where I wanted to change formatting to emphasize certain data. I fumbled through creation of my own custom style, but it would be really nice to have that extra bit of knowledge in this book. Otherwise, I would highly recommend this as a good, inexpensive book for building a foundation on pivot tables.

Good points:1. Quick reading.2. Easy to read.3. Cool tips for intermed users.4. Great intro for beginners.To improve:1. Grammar corrections because could lead to misinterpretation.2. At the end of the book is confusing.3. More basic tips and pivot table tools.

The book is too simple to get any idea for a basic user. I tried to find the workbook on the recommendated website listed on Page 4 of the book, no link, no sign up, no log in on the website except "Subscription". Without the workbook, this book is just useless.

Very good introduction to pivot tables and some of the common problems you can face when building them. Nice structure to lessons.
