About the Author

Cork Graham received international notoriety in 1983 as an 18-year-old photojournalist, and US Naval Reserve midshipman, captured and imprisoned by the Socialist Rep. of Vietnam for 11 months while photographing a clandestine treasure hunt and reports of American MIAs lost in Indochina in 1975. This story became the subject of his first international bestselling memoir, THE BAMBOO CHEST: An Adventure in Healing the Trauma of War. Soon after his release from Vietnam, he was in Central America continuing his career as a photojournalist. He is the second American to have completed the Salvadoran Navy Special Forces course. With combat experiences spanning ten years in Southeast Asia, and Latin America, both as a combatant and photo historian/photojournalist and later as a paramilitary officer, he has advised and instructed a variety of military and LE units in counter-terrorism, counter-insurgency, and counter-piracy. His latest media adventure was as an actor on Discovery Channel’s, 2015 #1 non-spin-off hit series, TREASURE QUEST: SNAKE ISLAND of which this exposé is about.

This is a fantastic book!Cork Graham fearlessly blows the lid off of the reckless and fraudulent practices that are behind The Discovery Channel's "reality" shows. You can surf Facebook, and the web, and find accounts from former "reality" show stars about how The Discovery Channel is playing it fast and loose with safety rules and manufacturing drama in order to get the big ratings and advertising money they openly lust over. Cork has given us a carefully documented account over the absolute garbage he witnessed and physical abuse he endured in order to be a part of what he began believing was going to be a true TV show about a genuine treasure hunt and isn't shy about sharing his disappointment and anger in finding out what it really was. Just wait until you read about what really happened!

First things first, the author is clearly crazy, and you need to know that before you decide to pay money for this. The book is a rambling mess, full of absurdly random prepper-style diatribes, obscure historical tangents, and tons of repetition. It desperately needed an editor, as there's all sorts of problems with it. There's key phrases and ideas in multiple places like he couldn't decide where to put them, so just left them all in; there's sentences that literally just don't make sense, like he forgot to say what the subject was so it's referencing nothing; and there's also paragraphs where he starts referencing a person or event, but never explains who they are, or what it is, so we the reader have no idea what he's going on about. To be more specific though, he's absolutely obsessed with one of his castmates, like insanely obsessed and in desperate need of therapy. Though, in fairness, if that guy is even 10% as bad as the author makes him out to be, then he needs to seek therapy as well. The author spends the entire book talking about how there is no real treasure hunting team, that they're all actors, that everything is fabricated, and it's all meaningless, but then spends pages and pages infuriated that his fellow castmembers aren't taking him seriously as a "leader" and that the guy he's obsessed with is trying to take over the team and become the new "Team Leader" -- which is insane, because as he points out over and over, there is no team, they're literally just actors playing a role, so who cares who's fictional character is pretend "in charge" of the rest of the fictional characters in the fake script of this fictional series?More depressingly, he constantly looks down on his castmates as Hollywood trash who take their pretend roles too seriously, calling them fake, and in it for the money and fame, even for things as mundane as just saying they're happy about the show doing well in the ratings. All of which is ironic considering the entire arc of the book is about his "character" not getting enough respect, and that anger spilling over into his real life. Also ironic is how taken aback he was by how fake Season 1 truly was, where the whole concept, and ensuing deceit required to make this type of show, really hit him hard, to the point where he was depressed and outraged over it -- but then he mysteriously decides to sign up for Season 2, and proceeds to get outraged all over again because he's surprised it's still so fake? Like, what? That's a special kind of delusion.WITH THAT SAID, there is all sorts of explosive tidbits about the process of making "Reality" TV. If this is a fabricated con job created by him to slander the Discovery Channel, where he's lying and Reality TV is actually "real" and not fake, then it's a darn good one. Sure, there's a ton of exaggeration and hyperbole, but I bought into the low level view of it. I live in LA and you can't throw a rock without hitting somebody who was involved in some sort of Reality TV production, so I'm already hyper aware when it comes to watching these shows and noticing trick editing or voiceovers that were clearly captured six months later. However, this book has really opened my eyes even further. Even I didn't realize the lengths they were going to in order to drum up more reality in their reality show. It really is astonishing, and I'm amazed that this book is even allowed to exist, so you should probably grab it before it's gone.In short, the book is written by an author who is both paranoid and delusional, but a lot of what it contains are incredible bombshells of genuine behind-the-scenes exclusives about how these types of shows are truly made. So read it, but don't be afraid to skip through the pages and pages of nonsense to get to the juicy parts.

Interesting take on the "reality TV" industry from insider Cork Graham. As a cast member of "Treasure Quest: Snake Island" seasons 1 & 2 he had first hand exposure to the scripted dialog and fabricated/planted so-called "treasures" found. He also witnessed illegal actions of Discovery network employees including the smuggling of authentic artifacts, assault of cast members and illegal bribery of foreign government officials. This should make you pause before assuming any of the reality shows today are actually real and unscripted. After reading this you'll watch season 3 of Treasure Quest, Coopers Treasure, Curse of Oak Island, etc with a whole new level of skepticism. I took one star off because the book could definitely have benefited from an editor/proofreader.

Want a behind-the-scenes look into today's popular TV shows? Check out this book by Cork Graham. You will never look at "documentary" TV the same again.

Cork Graham, the REAL DEAL soldier, writer, trainer, public speaker, adventurer, and truth teller. Cork takes on the demented behavior of reality tv and the Discovery management. Cork tells all about his time on reality tv on Treasure Quest/ Snake Island. This book will become a movie and tv show! Cork documents and proves all that he tells about the sickness that runs reality tv shows. Buy copies for all your friends and spread the work about this tell all the TRUTH book!

This book blows the doors of the criminal like behavior of modern TV networks and the Corporate Execs who run them like private mafias. It covers so many things, with so many outrageous facts, it is a wonder the FCC doesn't pull their licenses for false advertising and the people don't file class action lawsuits for intentional misrepresentations. One is left wondering, how many folks have died due to their negligence and how many more will die before they are held accountable.

Should have been professionally edited before being put on amazon. A lot of rambling. I suspect he has a few amazon accounts on different credit cards and fabricated his five star reviews. Hes no Faulkner. His last book was better written and made sense even if it was fantastical. The writing style here was very different. Almost like someone else wrote his first book for him.

This book is a fiction account that is embellished to make it seem as non-fiction by the author accounts.
